Edward Burt and Mary Ann Prescott

Edward Burt (b. 1816), according to the marriage record son of Richard Burt, married Mary Ann Prescott (b. 21 Jan 1821 in Tiverton), daughter of John Prescott and Ann Warren, at St Peter's Church, Tiverton on 26 Nov 1837.

Edward and Mary Ann Burt had 11 children:

  11. Sidney George Burt b. 4 Nov 1863 (1863 S Quarter in TIVERTON Volume 05B Page 424). DOB from Naval record, although he cannot have been born in Nov if already registered in the Sep quarter.
All of the birth registrations show the mother's maiden name PRESCOTT.

In 1841, Edward Burt (25) Labourer, Mary Ann Burt (20) Lace Worker and George Burt (1) were living in Bampton Street, Tiverton

In 1851, living at Londonderry, Tiverton, were Edward Burt (34) Labourer and Mary Ann (30), George Burt (11), Edward Burt (9), John Burt (5), Richard Burt (3) and William Burt (0), also Mary Carter (71) Lodger. 

In 1861, family name mis-transcribed as Bust, in Bampton Street, Tiverton, we find Edward Burt (45), Mary Burt (44), Richard Burt (14), William Burt (10), Lucy Burt (8), Caroline [Charlotte] Burt (6) and James Burt (2).

Edward Burt died, at 50, in 1866 D Qtr in TIVERTON Vol 05B Page 311. 

On 27 May 1870, listed simply as George Burt, son of a widow from Bampton Street, the youngest child was registered at Heathcote School, aged 6 years 8 months, which points to a birth in September.

In 1871, Mary Ann Burt (50) Widow, Seamstress, was still living in Bampton Street with John Burt (25) Mason's Labourer; Lucy Burt (19) Lace Hand in Tiverton Factory; Charlotte Burt (17) Laundress; James Burt (11) and [Sidney] George Burt (7). Emily Peters (19) also Lace Hand in Tiverton Factory and her son Berty Peters (2) were Lodging with them. 

Mary Ann Burt died, at 56, in 1877 J Qtr in TIVERTON Vol 05B Page 298.
