Joseph Phillips and Ann Clarke

Joseph Phillips married Ann Clarke at St Mary Magdalene church, North Ockendon on 12 Jan 1801, the first ancestors I've found in this branch.

Joseph and Ann had at least five sons:

1. James Phillips bap. 12 Feb 1804 (buried 21 Nov 1804) both at St. Nicholas, South Ockendon
2. Thomas Phillips bap. 25 May 1806 at St. Nicholas, South Ockendon
3. James Phillips bap. 17 Jul 1808 at St. Nicholas, South Ockendon (buried 2 Oct 1814 at St Michael, Aveley)
4. William Phillips b. 25 Dec 1810, bap. 20 Jan 1811 at St Michael's, Aveley. (There is a burial of a William Phillips, aged 31, on 25 Apr 1841 in Rainham that may relate.)
5. Isaac Phillips bap. 26 Dec 1813 at St Giles & All Saints, Orsett

There was a burial of an Ann Phillips (37) in Grays Thurrock on 18 Apr 1819. 

In 1841, Joseph Phillips (65) with wife Susan (50), Eliza Phillips (20) and Emma Phillips (1) were living in West Thurrock, Orsett, so it appears he remarried and assume Eliza was their child (not found marriage or baptism records). Emma Phillips b. 1840 J Quarter in ORSETT UNION Volume 12 Page 174 was an illegitimate child, presumably Eliza's daughter.

There is a death of a Joseph Phillips in 1844 J Quarter in ORSETT Volume 12 Page 127, aged 67, who was buried in West Thurrock, Essex. 

Susannah Phillips died, at 57, in 1851 M Quarter in ORSETT Volume 12 Page 137 and was also buried in West Thurrock, Essex.

George Tooze and Anne Clarke

George Tooze (b. 1778) son of Thomas Tooze and Dorothy Woodbery, married Anne Clarke at All Saints Church, Holcombe Rogus on 27 Nov 1803.

George and Anne had seven children:

1. John Tooze bap. 2 Sep 1804 in Holcombe Rogus [1]
2. Elizabeth Tooze bap. 19 Apr 1807 in Holcombe Rogus [2]
3. Susanna Tooze bap. 30 Jul 1809 in Holcombe Rogus
4. George Tooze bap. 22 Sep 1811 in Holcombe Rogus [3]
5. Thomas Tooze bap. 14 Aug 1814 in Holcombe Rogus [4]
6. James Tooze bap. 30 Dec 1817 in Holcombe Rogus
7. Anne Tooze bap. 11 Apr 1819 in Holcombe Rogus

On all of the baptisms, George's occupation is listed as Chairmaker.

1841, George Tooze (60) Chairmaker; Ann Tooze (60) with Mary Tooze (12), John Vickery (6) and Susan Vickery (3) were living at Bulgins, Holcombe Rogus. Presumably, all three children were their grandchildren.

In 1851, living on Golden Hill, Holcombe Rogus, were George Tooze (74) Pauper Formerly Chairmaker and Ann Tooze (73) Pauper.

George Tooze died, at 75, in 1853 J Quarter in WELLINGTON-SOMERSET AND DEVON Volume 05C Page 275. Ann Tooze died, aged 81, in GRO Reference: 1860 M Quarter Volume 05C Page 306.

1. John Tooze b. 1804 is listed among Britain, Merchant Seamen in 1845. He married Ann Turner on 11 Oct 1847 at St Mary Magdalene, Gillingham, Kent. John Tooze was buried at St Mary's, Chatham, Kent in 1876. Ann Tooze (b. 1812) was buried at St Mary's, Chatham, in 1878.
2. Elizabeth Tooze married William Vickery, on 26 May 1833. 
3. George Tooze b. 1811 married Agnes Dearley in Halse, Somerset on 15 Jul 1836. In 1841, George Tooze (30) Chairmaker, was living in Kingsbury West, Somerset. By 1851, they were in Rockwell Green.
4. Thomas Tooze b. 1814 married Mary Keates, in Wellington, on 29 Sep 1837. (Yet another Thomas and Mary Tooze!) Their daughter, Susan Emily Tooze was born in Truro, Cornwall in 1846 (and baptised in St Helier on 26 Sep 1863). In 1851, Thomas Tooze (37) Chairmaker, was living in St Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands with wife Mary (33), Emily (4), Thomas (1) and George (0). Thomas Tooze was buried in St Helier, Jersey on 17 Aug 1858. Mary Tooze (40) Widow, was living in Dorset Street, St Helier in 1861. In 1871, son George (21) Provision Dealer, was living in the City of London with his sister, Ellen (18).

William Blazey and Mary Anne Clarke

William Blazey (b. 7 Nov 1853 in Heigham, Norfolk), youngest son of Francis Stephen Blazey and Hannah Minns, married Mary Anne Clarke (b. 1862 in Furneux Pelham, Hertfordshire), daughter of Joseph Clarke and Elizabeth Randle, at the Church of St Saviour, Upper Chelsea, on 16 Sep 1877. William was then a Servant, of 151 Pavillion Road, Knightsbridge. Mary Anne listed her father as Joseph Clark, Farm Steward. Witnesses were William Clarke, probably Mary Ann's older brother, and Elizabeth Lasthman.

William and Mary Ann Blazey had 10 children:

All of the birth registrations have the mother's maiden name CLARKE. 

Obviously, Alice Mary and William George, born in the same quarter of 1892, were dizygotic (fraternal) twins, of whom only Alice survived.

In 1881, William Blazey (27) Cab proprietor from Norwich, Norfolk and Mary A Blazey (29) from Hertforshire, were living at 16, Trinity Mews, St George Hanover Square, Westminster. While I cannot account for the absense of Francis William (2), neither can I find him listed elsewhere.

In 1891, William Blazey (37) Omnibus driver; Mary A Blazey (38), Francis Blazey (12), Maud Blazey (10), Frederick Blazey (8), Annie Blazey (7), Florence Blazey (5) and Sydney Blazey (2) were living in Fulham.

In 1901, at 37, Bishops Road, Fulham, London were William Blazey (46) Omnibus driver; Mary Anne Blazey (48), Francis W Blazey (22) Builder's clerk; Maud E Blazey (20) Barmaid (retired); Frederick J Blazey (18) Stock broker's clerk; Annie E Blazey (17) Dressmaker; Florence E Blazey (15), Sydney G Blazey (12), Alice M Blazey (9), Lily A Blazey (7), Charles W Blazey (5) and Charles E Hall (35) Lodger, Married, Omnibus driver.

Then the first Mrs Mary Anne Blazey died, aged 54, in 1905 J Quarter in FULHAM Volume 01A Page 215.

On 15 Oct 1905, at Saint Peter's Church, Devonia Road, Islington, William Blazey (52) Widower, Driver, son of Francis Blazey (deceased) married again to Mary Ann Clark (41) Spinster of 71 Prebend Street, Islington, daughter of William Clark, Carman. Her father was also from Norfolk. Coincidence, or has the family tree just become another convoluted, twisting monkey puzzle?

This Mary Ann Clark (no final E's), brought with her an illegitimate son, John William McCallam Clark b. 1903 S Quarter in ST MARYLEBONE Volume 01A Page 540. A 'gentleman' by the name of McCallam may be implicated.

In 1911, William Blazey (57) Bus Driver from Norfolk; Mary Ann Blazey (47) from Islington; Lily Blazey (17), Charles Blazey (15), William McCallam Clark (7), David Howe (46) Lodger, Motor bus Driver and Lily Holmes (22) General Domestic Servant, Visitor were at 37 Racton Road, Fulham. Alice Blazey (20) was Under Housemaid in the household of Cecil Fane (54) at 27 Beaufort Gardens, Kensington (a stone's throw from Harrods Department Store.)

In 1921, William Blazey (67) Taxi driver, Out of Work, was living alone at 5, Adeney Road, Hammersmith and described himself as Widowed. However, just over a mile away at 25, Gratton Road, West Kensington, were Mary Ann Blazey (56) Daily woman, listed as married, with her son, John William Clark (17) Clothes Shop Assistant. Had William not used 'Widowed', this could simply have been for work, but as it is, it looks as if they'd separated.

Mary Anne Blazey (59) died in 1924 M Quarter in KENSINGTON Vol 01A Page 291. There was the extraneous E on her middle name this time.

William Blazey (80) died in 1934 J Qtr in CAMBERWELL Vol 01D Page 640.
