All spellings are variable: Tompson is also Thompson even Tomson, Ridgeway is Ridgway, Gabbaday is sometimes Gabbeday or Gabbedy, Blazey becomes Blazy, Crow or Crowe, Harty was Hardy, Middleton is Medleton or Medelton and Sweeney can be Sweney, Sweeny or Swaney. With so many unable to write, it will have depended on what the registrar or enumerator heard.

General Register Office (GRO) references for births and deaths, where appropriate, are quoted, so that you can more easily locate certificates. I do not routinely purchase certificates for any, other than my direct ancestors, which I'm willing to share.
